Rare 19th Century Venetian 7-Layer Chevron Trade Bead Strand – Roy Sieber Collection

Unlike typical assembled strands, these 20 jumbo chevrons exhibit a rare level of uniformity in pattern, layer thickness, and coloration, suggesting they originate from the same master cane production. Finding a matched sequence of this caliber and size from a singular provenance is a significant opportunity for the serious collector.

Bead Count: 20 beads
Layer Count: 6 layers (white-blue-white-red-white-blue)
Dimensions: Ranging from approx. 37 to over 50 mm in length.
Technique: Venetian drawn-glass cane, ground faceted ends ("rosetta" pattern).

Condition: This strand exhibits a genuine, varied "field patina" consistent with 19th-century trade use. While the pattern and size are a rare match, the individual beads show varying degrees of surface pitting, oxidation, and "sugaring" on the white layers. One bead in particular (see macro photo) displays heavy surface character and deeper pitting, serving as a testament to the strand’s age and historical journey. There are no structural cracks; all wear is cosmetic and age-appropriate.

Provenance: From a group of African objects acquired via estate sale auction from the personal collection of African art scholar Roy Sieber. Documentation supporting this past ownership is available to the buyer upon request (personal information and pricing redacted).

Condition: Pre-Owned Good
Color:
Blue/red/white

Theme and style tags: antique venetian beads, beaded jewelry, italy, venetian beads, venetian chevron beads, vintage venetian beads
