Vintage Norwegian Bunad Solje Sterling Silver Rosette Brooch W Lauv Dangles
This vintage brooch is an example of traditional Norwegian Bunad sølje silver worn with regional costume for weddings, church holidays, and life events.
It is built in a classic rosette form: a central domed cabochon surrounded by six heavy spiral coil bosses, a construction style associated with Telemark and Setesdal silversmith traditions. Three ribbed cone lauv dangles hang below, a protective element typical of sølje brooches.
The amber-tone cabochon was tested and responds as early plastic - lucite, a material often used in bunad silver from the 1930s alongside amber and amber glass, and consistent with the period.
Faint worn Sterling mark suggest the piece was made for the Norwegian-American community, where Sterling was often used instead of the Norwegian 830S standard.
An authentic example of Scandinavian folk silver in the bunad tradition, likely dating circa 1935–1955.
