Vintage R.C. Limoges Judaica Shema Israel Book-Shaped Trinket Box – Hand Painted
Beautiful vintage book-shaped Limoges France porcelain trinket box featuring the Shema Israel prayer. The deep cobalt-blue “cover” is framed with pale blue and gilt detailing and topped by an ornate gold-tone openwork medallion, while the metal mount and feather-shaped clasp mimic the look of a miniature bound book.
Inside the lid is the English inscription:
“Hear, O Israel, The Lord is our God, The Lord is One.”
The base interior carries the corresponding Hebrew text, שמע ישראל ה׳ אלהינו ה׳ אחד, from the Shema prayer.
Marked on the underside “R.C. Limoges-France – Peint à la main,” indicating hand-painted decoration in Limoges, France.
Measures approximately 1 3/4 x 1 3/8 x 1 inch.
