West African Twisted Cuff Bracelet Prestige Amulet 224g Heavy
Large ethnographic torque bracelet associated with jewelry traditions of West Africa.
The bracelet is formed from a thick twisted rod with faceted polygonal terminals decorated with stamped geometric motifs. This type of open torque bracelet is traditionally worn across the Sahara and Sahel regions and is characteristic of Tuareg metalwork.
The piece is exceptionally heavy and substantial.
Longest inner measurement: ~2.25 in.
Fit: small. The opening is about 1 in. Not “adjustable” due to very heavy gauge.
Weight: 224 grams
Material: silver-tone metal alloy (unmarked)
Form: open torque bracelet
Provenance: From a group of African objects acquired via estate sale auction from the personal collection of African art scholar Roy Sieber. Documentation supporting this past ownership is available to the buyer upon request (personal information and pricing redacted).
Not cleaned or fully tested for metal composition. Not attracted by magnet. A discreet surface test confirms a consistent silver-white color throughout the metal, with no yellow or red base-metal undertones visible. In the absence of an XRF gun, a chemical acid test was declined as it would require invasive scratching that would compromise the integrity of this historic piece.
